It took us a long time to select our Pinot Grigio. We wanted something competitively priced but also a really good example of what this grape has to offer and we really feel that we found it here. Pinot Grigio gets a bit of a bad rap here in the UK, and is thought to be a very simple wine, only suitable for knocking back in pub gardens. Try this one and let us change your mind!
Conviviale Pinot Grigio is the result of a selection of the best quality grapes from mature vineyards in the Veneto region of North-eastern Italy. This is classic Pinot Grigio territory, climate is cool here which is essential for this grape. The region benefits from a cooling influence from the Adriatic to the west yet it is offered protection from the much harsher Northern Eurpoean climate by the the Alps which form the regions northern border.
Real care and attention to detail has taken place here. The grapes are hand harvested and the wine is aged for a period of 3 to 6 months on fine lees in stainless steel tanks before bottling to add a little texture and richness.
Aromas of orchard fruits dominate the nose with hints of honey and peach. The palate is lightly spicy with good weight and texture, balanced by fresh acidity and baked apple and pear notes.
Perfect to enjoy without food but also with fresh oysters and oven baked seabass. It also has enough weight to accompany roast poultry and poached salmon.
