We all need a little ‘Funkstille’ (radio silence) in our life now and again so kick back and take a moment to enjoy the silence with a glass of Grüner Veltliner.
A grape variety which is grown primarily in Austria this is amazing value for money as they do tend to be a little bit more on the pricey side. Grapes are grown in the vineyards of the northeast of Austria bordering Slovakia and Czech Republic where delightful wine villages are threaded like strings of pearls and the diversity of terroir is vast. Gruner Veltliner shines here and as Austria’s flagship white grape variety it is easy to see why they love it so much.
Subtle exotic aromas are accompanied with ripe pear and fresh citrus fruit. It is a dry wine with complex flavours and a rich palate of melon and grapefruit with a refreshing, zippy finish.
What makes us love this wine even more is its diversity when it comes to food. It has a great acidity so works well with fried chicken and Austrian Wiener Schnitzel as well as vegetable based pasta dishes or risotto.
