Southern France, with its multifarious regions, indigenous grapes, cultures and traditions is home to some of the most exciting, characterful wines in the world at present and we loved this Viognier when we tried it.
Producer Mont Rocher has created a collection of wines produced from indigenous varieties in a style that lets them clearly express their varietal typicity and sense of place.
Viognier as a grape variety is going from strength to strength, it was almost extinct in the 1970’s and now it is being planted in wine regions across the globe. It is unique in that it is rarely oaked but has a fuller body so if you like a bit of oomph to your white wine, a little less acidity and that more soft round mouthfeel then this is perfect for you.
The nose is dominated by soft honeysuckle and apricot and this palate is rich, almost unctuous yet still dry, tangy and refreshing. A real treat!
