Description
We sometimes find that Merlot, especially at the lower price points, can lack a little structure which was why we were so excited when we found this little gem. The grapes are grown in Chile’s mountainous Maule Valley on rocky, harsh soil. The cooler temperatures assist in creating a wine with structure and balance. The wine is fermented in stainless steel which allows the juice to really reflect the terroir in which it is grown, with the huge array flavour characteristics coming from the grapes themselves, not the winemaking process.
This is a wine with poise, elegance and restraint. The nose has plenty of ripe fruit and meaty notes with plum, cherry and bramble aromas. The palate has lots of plum as well as herbal notes with a lovely soft finish. It is medium in body and has a purity and freshness with a hint of spice. Gorgeously drinkable and not at all like the more commercial styles of Chilean Merlot.
