We really rate Vidal as a producer and their winemaking philosophy which focuses on minimal intervention from vineyard site to bottle. The result is a collection of award winning and highly acclaimed wines which are true to their roots and exhibit the perfect combination of balance, concentration and complexity.
Grapes for the Estate Riesling are sourced from the unique vineyards of the Awatere Valley which is rich in alluvial deposits giving the wine a minerality and flintiness which isn’t evident in wines from other areas of Marlborough. Sourced from three different vineyard sites there are masses of flavours in this wine, each vineyard adding a little something different. The proximity to the Awatere River also helps retain the acidity in the grapes by slowing down the ripening period. This is really special terroir and this Riesling is testament to that. It is so unbelievably fresh and bright and extremely moreish!
The nose is vibrant with classic lime aromas almost jumping out of the glass, accompanied with a bright blossom note and a touch of tropical fruit. Expressive and dry with a taut natural acidity. Delicious!
This is so zippy and zesty it is a gorgeous wine to sip without food but is also extremely food friendly too. The bright flavours are perfect with really fresh foods so ceviche is amazing here or any light white fish with a squeeze of lemon. Coriander also pairs well, we tried with carrot, ginger and coriander fritter and it was a perfect match.
