We really rate Vidal as a producer and respect their winemaking philosophy which focuses on minimal intervention from vineyard site to bottle. The result is a collection of award winning and highly acclaimed wines which are true to their roots and exhibit the perfect combination of balance, concentration and complexity.
With Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc being a style of wine which is so widely recognised it was essential for us to bring you the best example we possibly could. Fruit for this wine was grown in the Awatere and Wairau Valley’s where typical warm days and cool nights provide flavour intensity and definition and vineyard selection was based on the potential of each site to produce wines which show tropical fruit flavours and generosity.
The fruit was gently pressed and the juice cool-fermented to retain as much flavour and aroma as possible. Lees ageing of some components prior to bottling has developed mid-palate weight adding to the wine’s intense fruit characters.
What we love about this wine is that it displays all of the classic Marlborough characteristics, most notably passion fruit and gooseberry but with tropical fruit in abundance too, particularly mango and pineapple. It is zesty, herbaceous and aromatic and multi award winning too with recent vintages winning awards as prestigious as best Sauvignon Blanc at Decanter Asia Awards. This producer is going from strength to strength and this wine is a must have for all Marlborough lovers.
Perfect with goats cheese or asparagus wrapped in Parma ham. Also beautiful with smoked trout and vegetarian quiche.
