It has been just over 3 years since I launched The Bubbly Wine Company and what a journey it has been. I don’t think, despite any best intentions, you can ever be truly prepared for becoming a business owner. It reminds me of when I was younger and about to embark on 16 months solo travel around the world backpacking, with my first stop being New Delhi in India. I remember being sat in university with some Indian friends and they were trying to warn me that it would be a culture shock, an attack of the senses and although I thought I was prepared, there was no way I could have been.
I had been on a course, I had read all of the travel guides and copious amounts of forums but nothing other than going there and experiencing that thrilling but crazy place could have enabled me to understand it. I fell in love with that country just as I have being a business owner, it just takes a bit of getting used to and a few large glasses of wine.
My heart is in the wine industry, not only is it all I have ever done but it is wholeheartedly what I love. I had thought fleetingly about starting my own business but having my little boy made me take the plunge that I otherwise may never have taken. I still wanted and needed to work but I didn’t want to be out working all day every day, I wanted something to fit around our lifestyle and so The Bubbly Wine Company was born.
The first few months were a challenge, as it would be with any new business, my partner and I (and I mean life partner not business, although I would definitely say through no choice of his own he has become both) were out every single day we could, pushing flyers through peoples doors. I remember the first day we went out leafleting, we were out for hours with our little one in his pram and imagined getting home to our first sold out event. When we got home the event wasn’t sold out, we didn’t have one booking and a few days later we still didn’t but then eventually the first one came. When we made any sales in those early days we used to have a happy dance, it was a twerk, I remember saying “I wonder if one day we won’t twerk every time an order comes through” and now we don’t, thankfully for our neighbours, but I still do a little happy dance inside and am so grateful for every single sale we make.
Last year I decided it was time for a new website and a re-brand. Something I have found is that there is a perception, due to our name, that we only sell sparkling wine. I did toy with the idea of changing the name but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I feel that we have become a little brand and I didn’t want to lose the following that we have worked so hard to build up. The name “The Bubbly Wine Company” is also very close to my heart and I believe it very much reflects what we do, bringing you wine in a way which is fun, friendly and unpretentious. Our events are, and always will be, centred around fun and laughter. Our new logo has therefore been designed to portray that we offer both still and sparkling wine. We absolutely love the new site and we hope you agree that it is a good reflection of us as a business.
I really wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone who has supported us over these last 3 years. We hope you continue to follow us, try some more of our wines, come to some events or host a private or corporate event. Thank you even more to our regular customers, I hope you know how much you are appreciated. I am so eternally grateful that you have enabled me to manage the business around my family and be there for a little more of my boys childhood. Those of you who know me personally will know that I am blessed to be pregnant with our second child so I can’t raise a glass to the relaunch with you, but I’m there in spirit and my other half will always drink my share, he is good like that. I really hope you like what you see and will continue our journey with us.
Cheers and a million thankyous again.
PS – The first order we get on the new site will definitely warrant a twerk
